Tags: launching a website

Six years ago, when Home To Italy was first published, my editor suggested that it might be a good idea for me to develop an author's website. I agreed that it might be a good idea too.

A couple of years later, just before Francesca's Kitchen hit the bookshelves, my agent suggested that it might be a good idea for me to develop an author's website. I thought then that it might be a pretty good idea, too.

Two years ago, just after I finished Italian Lessons, a good friend suggested that maybe it might be a good idea for me to get on the stick, maybe join the 21st Century, and develop an author's website. It struck me, of course, as a very good idea.

I suppose that all along it has been a good idea to start an author's website, but for some unknown reason I could never seem to get around to doing it. Quite honestly I had no idea of how to put one together, or what I would do with it once I had one. I still don't--not really. So why bother?

But then one day, perhaps perceiving the underlying emotions holding me back, Nellie, Abigail, and Hector at the Authors Guild made me an offer I couldn't refuse: to build my website for free. Gratis. The bubble. Niente.

Suddenly I understood what it was that had been holding me back all along, why I had never gotten around to developing an author's website. Suddenly I not only thought it was a good idea to have an author's website, but suddenly I really really wanted one. Now!

So now I have one. Now I'm taking my first giant step into the 21st Century. I still don't know what I'm doing with this thing, and I confess to a bit of trepidation at wading into the cyber waters, so I invite you who are reading this to take a look around, check in now and then, and let me know what you think.

Meantime, I'm going to say a little prayer, take a deep breath, press the button and finally put this show on the road. Wish me buona fortuna!

ciao
