Waiting

Lately I've been feeling a lot like that guy at the bar in Rick's Cafe Americain. "Waiting, waiting, waiting," he mutters, staring forlornly into his drink. "I never get out of this place. I die in Casablanca."

Okay, maybe it hasn't been quite that bad, waiting for my new book, Villa Mirabella, to be published, but it's been close. It's always the same. I breathed a big sigh of relief when I finally finished the story and submitted it to my editor last year. I was so happy I felt like dancing a tarantella.

But it didn't last.

Soon began that long, agonizing stretch of months that inevitably ensues between the time when a manuscript's final period gets typed and the resulting book miraculously appears in the bookstores. At times it can be like trudging along a tortuous roundabout refugee route that features moments of great anticipation and hope at the start, but inevitably becomes punctuated by others of far greater despair as the days march on with you and the destination seems always so far off.

But the end is mercifully in sight. Tomorrow, May 25th, Villa Mirabella will finally be released!

I know it has been a long time in coming, so I hope that those of you who have read and enjoyed my other books, and have been patiently awaiting this one, will forgive me.

Meantime, for those of you who are new to my work and are perhaps poking around my website for the first time, I invite you to pull up a chair and put your feet up. Grab a book or two and relax. Who knows, maybe this will be the start of a beautiful friendship.
